Why Your Filter is the Heart of Your Pool
Your pool filter works harder than any other piece of equipment. It runs for hours every day, pulling water through to trap dirt, debris, oils, and microscopic particles. When your filter gets clogged or dirty, your entire pool suffers. Water gets cloudy, chemicals do not work properly, and algae can start growing.
In Hesperia, our desert environment makes filter maintenance even more critical. Wind carries fine sand and dust into pools constantly. This creates extra work for your filter system. Without regular cleaning, filters get overwhelmed and lose their ability to keep water clear.
Our professional pool service team in Hesperia specializes in all types of filter systems. Whether you have a sand filter, cartridge filter, or DE (diatomaceous earth) filter, we know exactly how to clean and maintain it for peak performance.
How We Service Different Filter Types
Each type of pool filter requires specific cleaning methods. We handle all three types commonly found in Hesperia pools:
Cartridge Filters
Cartridge filters use pleated fabric elements to trap debris. We remove the cartridges, spray them clean with specialized equipment, inspect them for tears or damage, and reinstall them properly. Cartridges typically need cleaning every 4 to 6 weeks and replacement every 1 to 2 years depending on usage.
Sand Filters
Sand filters use a bed of special filter sand to trap particles. We perform backwashing to flush out trapped debris and reverse water flow to clean the sand bed. Over time, sand loses its sharp edges and needs replacement. We recommend changing sand every 5 to 7 years for optimal filtration.
DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters
DE filters provide the finest filtration but require more maintenance. We backwash the system, clean the grids thoroughly, and recharge with fresh DE powder. These filters need the most attention but deliver the clearest water when properly maintained.
Not sure what type of filter you have? No problem. We will identify it during our visit and explain exactly what maintenance it needs. If you are experiencing water clarity issues even with a clean filter, you might also need our algae treatment services.
Signs Your Filter Needs Attention
Your pool tells you when the filter needs help. Watch for these warning signs:
- •Water stays cloudy even after adding chemicals and running the pump
- •Pressure gauge reads 8 to 10 PSI higher than normal operating pressure
- •Water flow from return jets seems weaker than usual
- •Pool takes longer to clear up after swimming or rain
- •You notice sand or DE powder returning to the pool
- •It has been more than 6 months since your last filter cleaning
Ignoring these signs leads to bigger problems. A struggling filter makes your pump work harder, uses more electricity, and can eventually damage your equipment. If you also notice equipment making unusual noises, check out our pool equipment repair services for a complete system check.
